A dragon boat team will make its way through the festival and along with special performances using Mikko Drumming and Fushu Daiko Drums.
The Chinese New Year is a two-week spring festival that has been celebrated for over 5,000 years in China. As the legend is told, Lord Buddha called all the animals before he departed from earth, and only 12 animals came forward. As a reward he named a year after each of them: the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Hare, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Boar. This year, 2012, is the year of the Dragon, which is considered the year of luck. The Chinese Dragon means good fortune in all areas health, wealth and living a long, prosperous life.
This is a free event and open to the public.
